Add Some Color To Your Palette

We made the trek *slightly* out of the county to try Fonda Lupita in Sanford. They were named one of the 11 best new restaurants in America in 2021 by Eater. Since then, they’ve outgrown their first home in downtown Sanford and have moved down the road to a bigger space.

Similar decor and walk-up style ordering keeps the feel of the old space intact. The difference? It’s about six times larger, with significantly more seats.

“It’s nice to have a lot more space,” says Alondra Frausto. “We’re excited about the new bar and margaritas.” In addition to different kinds of tequilas, the restaurant will also be serving up micheladas.

Not into alcohol? Try their frescas, which come in many different fruity flavors. We tried the hibiscus.

Fonda Lupita has a relatively small menu but it stays true to authentic Mexican food. The most popular item is the quesabirria, a quesadilla with birria style meat. It’s served up with consomé for dipping.

The colorful restaurant also has an area for play not limited to children. You’ll find cornhole, giant connect four and giant jenga so you can bring your friends and make dining an experience.
