Help Find Fido

Starting this week, if you find a lost pet, you don’t have to wait for a vet to be open to scan it for a microchip. Thanks to realtor Joanne Crum and Rogue Active Duty Animal Rescue (RADAR), you’ll find three microchip scan stations in Moore County. The scan stations will be outdoors and available 24/7. We imagine they’re a bit like a self-checkout situation, except you’re scanning for info so you can contact the owners ASAP.

Joanne says she’s “an animal lover first and foremost” and was bothered by the fact there was nowhere local to take found pets after hours or on weekends. She was talking about it with a client who happened to be heavily involved with RADAR, and was immediately interested in spearheading the project. A similar project was recently completed in Hoke County, so there was no need to pawnder the complicated logistics. “We’ve got a great community and when we come together, great things happen,” says Joanne. You can find the scan stations outside Moore Equine, Burney Hardware and Carthage Farm Supply starting Tuesday, April 8.

More pawsome happenings:

  • Sunday, April 13, 1-4 p.m.: Burney Hardware in Seven Lakes hosts a microchip clinic, where 100 pets can be microchipped for free.
