Railhouse Brewery: Penn Station is officially open in Southern Pines. The expansion, owner Chris Weber says, was driven by brand awareness. “As close as Southern Pines and Aberdeen are to each other, they’re totally separate markets,” he says. “I love downtown Aberdeen, but we also go to church in downtown Southern Pines, and my kids are always at Memorial Park. To us, it feels like an expansion of what our daily life already is.”

The new taproom gives Railhouse brewers more opportunity to be creative with small batch beers, and they plan to always have at least one rotating small batch on tap at Penn Station. The taproom has a couple of nitro hookups, so Chris plans to feature Railhouse Brewery’s signature Vanilla Porter on nitro as well as a NA nitro cold brew from High Octane. Even sweeter? They’re bringing back the beer and wine slushies just in time for the weather to be disrespectful.
Chris doesn’t want to compete with the Aberdeen brewery for things like music bingo and trivia, but he does plan to bring in live music. The mug club will be staying exclusive to the original location.

You’ll notice more train memorabilia going up in this location over time, and the back wall features a custom mural full of nods to local staples. You can expect to see Chris himself manning the bar at Penn Station so he can get to know his new customers. “It’s just been really great to see what Railhouse has become,” he says. Stop in for a brew from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and noon to midnight Friday and Saturday.
