Maybe you’ve always known about the gem mine in Aberdeen on Highway 211, or maybe you’re like us and have been living under a pitiful fifth-grade rock collection. Formerly known as Jims Gems and Gold, the Aberdeen spot recently rebranded under new ownership as Gems, Gold, Minerals and More.

Owned by Tangela and Myron Ingram and Meredith Daugherty, Gems, Gold, Minerals and More offers a gem panning experience that’ll make you feel like you’re in the mountains. Buckets start at $15 for 1.5 pounds of gems. You can upgrade to a 3-pound bucket for $25.

Each panning experience includes a brief history on the use of rocks as early human tools, and there’s an extra building available for birthday parties.

“You can bring food — pizza, cake, whatever into that building,” Tangela said. “I actually hope to start offering food here so people can make it an all-day thing if they’d like.”

The shop inside is like a little country store — with enough positive crystal energy to help you power through your Mercury retrograde. You can find single stones, jewelry and polished gems for yourself and your chakras.

Tangela, who is a self-taught crystal expert, discovered the power of crystals while on her own spiritual journey.

“I started reading about the role crystals play in aligning your chakras,” Tangela said. “I started looking everywhere for crystals — and then I stumbled upon this place.”

Tangela and Myron bought into the gem mine in Aberdeen back in April, but founded the new LLC in June.

“I hope this place can be somewhere that’s fun for the entire family,” Tangela said. “A place where everyone can learn something and enjoy themselves.”

Gems, Gold, Minerals and More is open Wednesday-Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 1-30-5 p.m.
