Blue Bird Play Cafe is opening in downtown Aberdeen just in time for the heat of summer. Blue Bird is part indoor play room, geared toward younger kids, and part coffee shop. The first day for play is Wednesday, June 3 but booking is open now. Kids can play in 2-hour sessions; cost is $13 for one child and $11 for each additional child. Monthly or annual memberships are available with extra perks. Find it at 101 N Poplar Street, Aberdeen.
The space features imaginative play areas, a crawlers area, climbing areas, a monthly rotating learning corner, a party room and more. This is not a drop-off spot, but parents are welcome to hang out in the “cafe area” while their kids play. Owner Christine Kasper primed the space for mom’s to have coffee dates. The full coffee bar will use beans from military-owned Bugle Call Coffee, a small business based out of Virginia.

As a toddler-mom herself, Christine wanted to bring an indoor space for young children to the area. “My daughter has been my little tester for the different toys and spaces,” she says. Another special touch are the names in the play village representing her son, daughter, dog and horse.

Don’t worry, it’s not a free-for-all: rules are posted throughout the space including “shoes off, socks on, and no food in the play area.” To keep things extra clean, there’s even a “yuck bucket” for toys that get subjected to toddler slobber. Yeah. Yuck.
In addition to the regular two-hour time slots, parents can opt for Toddler Time Wednesday mornings, 9-10 a.m., reserved for ages three and under, or Sensory Hour on Fridays 9-10 a.m., which is geared toward children with special needs or sensory issues. Reservations are strongly encouraged.
Blue Bird Play Cafe will be open weekdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed Tuesdays) and Saturday through Sunday 8 a.m. to noon with afternoon availability for birthday party bookings. Ready to play?
