Kim, Denny, Kiden, and Kolby Scruton opened Scruton Brother’s after spending summers in Michigan and New Hampshire and wishing they could bring ice cream treats home with them.

Parents Kim and Denny started the ice cream business as a way for entrepreneurial sons 18-year-old Kiden and 15-year-old Kolby to learn the ropes of owning a business. The brothers oversee daily operations but, Kim says, “we were waiting for them to get old enough, because it is a lot of responsibility.”

Because Kiden has dairy and gluten allergies, ensuring the menu had alternative options was important. You’ll find gluten-free cookie dough, buns, and brownies along with dairy free ice cream. In the future, veggie dogs and an egg free bun might make their way onto the menu.

“Pinehurst is a place where you have people from all around and soft serve is something everyone likes,” said Kiden.

The family wants to create a soft serve staple in the area, but also want to give back to the community through what they call the Care Project, a mission to match their tips each month and donate them to one of six local community organizations.

Grab your soft serve ice cream in a cone/cup or as a flurry, sundae, or shake at 225 W. Morganton Rd. Suite A in Southern Pines. Follow them on Instagram and Facebook.
