An art installation the second little pig would be proud to call home is coming together at Sandhills Community College’s Horticultural Gardens, thanks to world-renowned artist Patrick Dougherty and a band of volunteers.

Patrick spent some of his childhood in Southern Pines and has since become known for creating hundreds of stick sculptures across the country in museums and public spaces. The natural art installation will take a few weeks to complete, and will intentionally last only a few years.

You can sign up to help weave and shape the sculpture into its final form (which remains TBD) by emailing volunteer coordinator Amy Davis at davisa@sandhills.edu

If splinters aren’t your thing, stop by and watch fearless fingers at work from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. every day. First, browse more of Patrick’s work on his website.
