If Ya Like It Then You Should’ve Made a Ring Of It

Sid’s Spoons has jewelry sure to stir up your day. Sidney Reser is a military spouse who makes spoon rings. Yes, as in rings made from spoons. “The best spoons ever are the super old ones you’d find in the back of a thrift store,” says Sidney. “Everyone used to collect spoons and never do anything with them,” she says. Her goal is to bring use back to the collectibles.

Her idea isn’t new. “My mom used to wear spoon rings in high school. They were really popular in the ‘70s,” says Sidney who later inherited her mom’s spoon ring collection. Unfortunately, she ended up losing all four when she went to college but it led her to learning to make her own. Her first ring brought out literal tears but now she can make them in minutes. The process involves cutting the metal, heating it, shaving it and bending it. “My mom is now well paid back in spoon rings,” she laughs.

At any one time she could have upwards of 400 spoons in her home. The Sandhills local likes to frequent thrift stores to find unique vintage spoons. “I always get stopped at the airport because there’s so much metal when they’re scanning my bag,” she says.

Her prices are typically between $25-$30 unless it’s a very unique spoon like a Rolex spoon, which used to be included when you bought a Rolex watch.

The spoon rings can last a lifetime and be passed down through generations, which is what Sidney strives for. “They don’t ever really break or tarnish since they’re meant to be washed all the time,” says Sidney.

She also makes memory rings, if a loved one passes away you can send in their silverware. As long as it’s not too thick, she can make rings for the whole family to have. She once did an order of 15 rings.

As for the other end of the spoons? Well she’s kept them all. She isn’t sure what she’ll do with them yet but one day she’ll find a use.

Originally from Washington state, Sidney has lived in the Sandhills a little over a year and hopes to get her rings in more local shops around North Carolina. She often does pop-up markets but you can also find her rings, in various sizes, on her website online or locally at Twigg & Co.
