The long-awaited food truck, Gravy Train, pulled into Red’s Corner in Southern Pines at 11 a.m. today — and orders for chef Curt Shelvey’s famous meatball grinders immediately started pouring in.
“We’ve already been busy,” Curt told us at noon, as his team was slinging out meatballs, fusilli mac ‘n’ cheese and more.
If, like us, you stay on the grind, you know that Curt’s meatballs and signature tomato gravy have had a cult-like following since they became a menu staple in 2020. This spring, he decided to sell the Broad Street building that housed his restaurant, Curt’s Cucina, and focus on Italian street food.
- Need updates? Stalk the truck on FB and IG.
- So, what about the Cucina? As previously reported, the building is the new home of the Southern Pines Elks Club — and the Elks are currently offering up the fully equipped kitchen to an entrepreneur who could use a commercial space. For more info, slide into club member Chris Smithson’s DMs.
A larger truck able to handle favorites from the OG Cucina menu is in the works. Until then, find the Gravy Train parked at Red’s Corner (901 SW Broad St.) from 11-8, Monday through Saturday.
