Just for Hits and Giggles

They’re not regular town governments, they’re cool town governments. To prove it, the town of Robbins has challenged the town of Carthage to a softball match. They have dubbed it “The Battle of the North,” aka northern Moore County. The match is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.

The ground rules: seven innings, with only town employees on each team. It was agreed upon that a player on either team has to be on the town’s payroll for at least 30 days, which means they still have time to scout players. Volunteer firefighters and part-time police officers will also be eligible.

Robbins has received $42,000 from the Ellie Jean Project to install an ADA-compliant playground, but more funds are needed to fulfill the town and the nonprofit’s vision. Proceeds from the concession stand will go toward the park’s construction. There will also be donation buckets for both towns at the game to really spread the glove. You already know these pitches will be there.
