Veterans Day in the Pines

- Nov. 8-11: Buy a raffle ticket from Rec Room for its Veterans Day Raffle which includes assorted swag from War Dogs, Black Sheep and more. A handmade live-edge coffee table with the Special Forces crest engraved into will also be a part of the raffle. Proceeds go toward Special Forces Charitable Trust and their work to help Western North Carolina. The drawing will be Nov. 12. There will also be bourbon specials all weekend. - Friday, Nov. 8, 5 p.m.: Join Hatchet Brewing Co. as it hosts Guitar 4 Vets, a monthly meetup jam session. BYOG (bring your own guitar). Strum along.
- Saturday, Nov. 9, 9:30 a.m.: Salute a hero. You’ll get the chance at the Southern Pines Veterans Parade, which includes generations of veterans and active-duty military along with demonstrations by the Bandit Flight Team, the Skydiving Angels, and more. Get there early to get a front-row space on the sidewalk. Here’s more info.
- Now through Monday, Nov. 11: Vets tour free. Toast to service during a tour and tasting at Brad Halling American Whiskey Ko., offered free for veterans and active-duty military. You’ll get a guided tour through the production facility before gathering in the Gratitude Room for a sampling of Sergeant’s Valor Bourbon and Rye, Madam Colonel Pistachio Bourbon Cream and Madam Colonel Botanical Dry Gin. - Saturday, Nov. 9, 3-10 p.m.: The Veteran Golfers Association (VGA) holds its fourth annual Race of the Pines golf cart racing at the Pinehurst Harness Track. Vroom, vroom.
- Saturday, Nov. 9, noon: The Moore County Veterans Memorial Park, at 1020 Carriage Oaks Drive in Carthage, hosts a ceremony including music and refreshments. For more info, call 910-947-3257.
- Monday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m.: Sandhills MOAA will conduct its annual Veterans Day Service at the Community Presbyterian Church in Pinehurst, with music and a keynote address. Get the schedule.
- Monday, Nov. 11, all day: FirstHealth Fitness is offering free access to all veterans, plus active duty and retired military. Blow off some steam.
- All month: See “Healing Through the Arts: The Reason We Serve,” art exhibit by local military veterans and spouses at the Campbell House Galleries. Check out gallery times here.
