If you’re planning to stay in the area over Memorial Day weekend, here’s your run-down on what’s going on:
Thursday, May 26
10 a.m.: The U.S. Army Special Operations Command is honoring Sgt. Ryan Knauss and his family in a Gold Star Memorial Ceremony at the USASOC Memorial Plaza on Fort Bragg. See more info here.
6-10 p.m.: Throw down some moos and brews from local vendors to support the Special Operations Community and their families at the 10th Annual Duskin & Stephens Foundation Beef & Beer Benefit. Bring the kids and enjoy a night of live music, local eats and dranks, a tomahawk-sized auction and the perfect medium to kick off MDW for a well-done cause.

9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Does your mood need a tune up? The 130+ unique automobiles at the Sandhill’s Motoring Festival might just rev your engine. It takes place from Friday through Sunday.
10 a.m.: Race over to Leader Solutions and Decision Support (LSDS) office on SE Broad Street in Southern Pines for a Memorial Day 5k & 10k run. First place male & female win three beers from Hatchet Brewing, second place wins two, and third place wins one. There will be a food truck on site at Hatchet Brewing following the race. 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Be social at High Octanes Fourth Friday where you’ll find live music, Puerto Rican food by Xavi Davi, and alcohol + coffee by High Octane. Dust the sand off your lawn chair.
Saturday, May 28
8 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Horse around at the free Polocrosse in the Pines tournament. Watch an exciting mix of polo and lacrosse all-in-one. There will be food trucks, drinks by James Creek Cider, and a silent auction. The event will continue into Sunday.
6:30 p.m.: Honor the legacies of the fallen at The Duskin & Stephens Foundation’s memorial roll call at Railhouse Brewery. Raise a glass.
Times vary: Pool season has arrived and most pools, lakes, and splash pads in Moore County are open. Take a dip at these local spots.
Sunday, May 29
9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: The Sandhills Motoring Festival revs up Pinehurst, with Concours in the Village. Over 130 unique vehicles will pack the streets.
12 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Add some variety to your weekly shopping run with the fresh catch of vendors at the Pop Up in The Pines series at Hatchet Brewing complete with live music and food truck.
6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.: Indulge in classic summer food and live music by Divine Past Nine at Pinehurst Resort’s summer concert series, Rock the Cradle. Dance the night away.
Monday, May 30
8 a.m.: RuckUP for the Regiment to raise money for the Special Forces Charitable Trust. Start a 5k or 10k ruck at Workhorse Fitness and Yoga studio or join virtually. Ruck n Roll.
9:30 a.m.: SLAM Southern Pines is hosting a free Memorial Day Murph event. #MondayMurph
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Grab your fam and head to the Pinehurst Harness Track for food, live music, and activities at the Village of Pinehurst Family Fest. Kids 17 & under and active/retired military get in free.
11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.: The Sly Fox holds its annual Memorial Day Barbecue. Adults are $24; kids 12 and under and active duty / veterans are $12. The menu includes pulled pork, baked beans, slaw and hushpuppies.
3 p.m.: The Sandhills Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is holding a Memorial Day Observance at The Village Chapel in Pinehurst. The service will include bagpipes, the presentation of colors and performances of patriotic music.
