So, you’ve decided to become a gardener. Maybe it’s because you saw a TikTok about some influencer’s perfect little suburban jungle. Maybe your neighbor won’t stop bragging about their tomatoes. Or maybe you just want to flex on your ancestors by successfully growing something other than mold on last week’s leftovers. Whatever your motivation, congratulations! Here’s how to get started:
Step 1: Prepare for Collateral Damage
Better to set your expectations going in. You will kill at least one plant. It’s not you, it’s them. Ok, it’s probably you. But in all honesty, gardening is a lot of trial and error. Your journey starts with scoping out the plant’s needs on the care tag. But maybe the tag says full sun, but after three long summer days it turns to dust and blows away like a tumbleweed. That’s okay. This is Darwin’s garden now, honey. Let the experts at The Garden Center by AOS help you pick out a bunch of varieties to plant, and see what survives the season — then buy more of that next year.

Step 2: Choose Your Hard
Whether you’re an outdoor or indoor cat, The Garden Center by AOS has supplies for you to dig your claws into. Growing plants indoors can be an easier way to turn those paws green, since you have more control over their environment. Tropical beauts definitely come with their own set of challenges, but with the right soil, drainage and humidity levels you can overcome most of them. Really, you can.

Step 3: Set Your Victims Fighters Up for Success
Like you, plants need a good bed. Too bad you can’t stay in yours all day. Your little green children have breakfast, lunch and dinner in their warm little dirt beds, so set them up for success with a mix full of nutritious vitamins and additives that’ll help keep the right amount of water in their soil. If you’re gardening in containers, outdoors or in, don’t let anyone tell you a few rocks at the bottom is good enough for drainage. Put some holes in the bottom. Root rot isn’t just the swamp ass of the plant world, it’s also a silent killer.

Step 4: Get the Right Tools
To our garden, we’re really all just tools. But you can have a few in your belt that make your gardening hobby even more fun. We’re having fun, right? Grab your gloves, spades and more from The Garden Center by AOS.
