You’ve seen Jean Skipper’s stamped metal jewelry in a local coffee shop or gallery, even if you didn’t realize it. The prolific artist has been enjoying thecamaraderie of local artisans since 2004, and her new space, ARTworks Vass, is a celebration of that community.
Five artists, including Skipper, take up occupancy in the space. Art, pottery, and gifts are available to purchase. A long table in the middle of the studio serves classes that cater to beginners and pros. A piano invites guests to fill the studio with their own music. Canvases are ready for paint, even when classes are not in session.
“The magic word is community,” Skipper said. “We want to create community among artists, among collectors, and among the people who create things here in Moore County. I want people to leave happier than when they step foot in thedoor.”
ARTWorks’ grand opening will be held this Friday, from 5-8 p.m. There will be giveaways, live music, food, and wine served by Black Rock Winery. Can’t make it? Don’t worry. The studio will be having a “Final Friday” party from 5-8 on, you guessed it, the last Friday of each month.
