The county board said “no way” to a proposal that would have increased the tax placed on hotel stays from 3 percent to 6 percent. The tax would have increased local marketing efforts, and helped build a $13 million sports complex that the convention and visitors bureau said would be a moneymaker. The board says the county’s money is better spent on the improvement of existing facilities.
