Hang Tight
Your forearms hate to see this coming but a new climbing gym is in the works – Cross Climbing Gym could be the first climbing specific space in Moore County. “When I first moved to the Sandhills almost seven years ago, one of the first things I looked for was a local rock climbing gym,” says creator Chris Morton, “I’ve heard of several attempts over the years.” Now that he is getting out of the army, he decided to be boulder and take on the challenge himself.

“Feedback we’ve heard is that there are not a lot of active activities for families to do together so we’re looking to the fill that need in particular,” says Chris. “One of the challenges of this area is that there aren’t many existing buildings large enough for climbing walls.” He is keeping plans pretty under wraps for now as he doesn’t have a finalized building just yet but we do know that he is looking in Aberdeen. ‘It’s been a long process,” he says but hopes to have a place opened by the end of the year.
- In the meantime, Chris has put out a survey to better plan programming in the future gym. You’ll know more when we do.
