Oasis Campground in Marston, N.C. — just 20 miles from Aberdeen — recently added a 900-square-foot yurt to their compound that will eventually be rented out as a meeting space and conference center.

According to campground owner Bob Drakeford, the yurt arrived from Portland, Oregon about a month ago, weighs 4,000 pounds, and is “as big of a yurt that a person can buy.”

Bob says they’ll be adding in rubber floors, a kitchenette and furniture to make it visitor-ready. The project should be finished by this summer.

Bob has been running Oasis Campground for 13 years now, and has added a glamping pod that’s available via Airbnb, three tiny houses and plenty of spaces for RVs.
The land has been in his family for more than 130 years; his great-grandfather, a freed slave, bought it for $1 an acre in 1890.
