Full Steam Ahead
After much anticipation, Nova Vita Coffee in downtown Aberdeen is in its soft opening phases. You can order drinks now but the kitchen, which will eventually serve 100% gluten-free baked goods, is still in progress. Owners Hanna Boyer, Cori Bray and DJ Lipscomb say the 1926 building didn’t serve up any major construction issues along the way, making the renovation process almost as smooth as their coffee.

You can expect to see seasonal menus with house-made syrups soon. Their secret to a great cup of Joe is checking their espresso machine’s settings throughout the day. “It’s a bit of a slower process but we want every drink to come out as best as it can,” says Hanna. You can opt for your teas and coffees in a mug or get them hot-to-go.
Did we mention they named their pink espresso machine Chappell Roast?

The midcentury modern-inspired space features a variety of seating and decor, like old vinyl records from their personal collections. “We were very intentional about every piece of furniture,” says Hanna. They also made the backroom sensory-friendly for families, complete with a growing board game collection and projector to eventually host community-style events such as movie nights or Super Mario tournaments. DJ is especially excited for live music, but there is no set schedule yet.
“We can’t wait to continue to offer more,” says Cori, whether that’s an event, renting space or adding in baked goods. “We selfishly made the place that we want to hang out at,” laughs Hanna, but the trio says community feedback has been great so far. “I think a lot of people just needed a place for gathering, which is why we picked a place of this size,” said DJ. Hours are subject to change but for now you can stop in Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find it at 109 W. Main Street.
