Dr. Michael Pritchett is using new tech to zero in on lung cancer, which accounts for 26 percent of all cancer deaths and affects people who have never smoked, or been exposed to it second-hand. FirstHealth is one of two hospitals in the nation to participate in an upcoming clinical trial with a type of radiology that uses electromagnetic waves in the microwave spectrum.
“This is basically the Holy Grail, that is to do it all in one procedure: diagnosis, staging and treatment,” Pritchett says. “Imagine that while I’m making the diagnosis, we can then put in a catheter and basically microwave the tumor to death.” Read more here.
