What was once a holdout of Murray Hill Road’s residential past is now the new location for Sandhills Shave Shop — an old-school style men’s barbershop that opened in 2015 in response to the renaissance of the American man’s version of a spa experience. Owner Mark Joas moved the shop from the Fairway Village Shopping Center on U.S. 15-501 into the somewhat unconventional spot late last month.
The new shop has the same barbers and offers the same services, but this time in a pimped-out pad with leather recliners, big TVs, and a pool table — a way to expand on the lounge vibe he’s after.
“We liked this location. It’s pretty visible from the busy road and it’s not too far from the old shop,” Joas says.
After purchasing the home, Joas had to knock down walls, update flooring, add space for the mirrors and barber chairs and even upgrade the really old bathrooms. Six months and lots of hard work later — his barber house is complete.
Sandhills Shave Shop is located at 590 Murray Hill Rd. in Aberdeen. It’s open seven days a week.
