We’ll be helping ourselves to the ~buffet~ at China Garden in Aberdeen, which just re-opened its hot and cold bars after moving to a new location and operating as takeout-only for more than a year.
“It’s been a long time, and I think a lot of people were getting tired of waiting,” said part owner Winnie Lin. “We’re still not going to be fully staffed, but we have family to help out, and we decided we’re just going to wing it.”
After 21 years on the corner of U.S. 15-501 and Johnson Street in Aberdeen, China Garden moved into the former home of Ruby Tuesday (1505 N Sandhills Boulevard) and opened for takeout in May 2020. Now, the family feels the community is once again ready to explore the world of self-serve food.”Operating a buffet is a very different business model,” Winnie says. “If we put items out and it’s not busy, we end up throwing a lot away. I know the pandemic is not over but I think people are excited to sit down in our new place and enjoy the buffet.”
Though staff will be limited, requests for table service will be accommodated if possible. Hand sanitizing stations have been installed, as have disposable gloves near the buffet utensils.
Hours are 11-9 Sunday-Thursday and 11-9:30 Friday and Saturday, but they could change depending on demand. For info, call 910-944-1668.
