Pinehurst Resort has opened a new course for the first time in nearly 30 years — Course No. 10 at the Pinehurst Sandmines. You’ll find an 18-hole golf course, a driving range, and a temporary pro shop and restrooms.“The first seven, eight holes are relatively benign,” says Matt Barksdale, the Resort’s director of golf. “Holes nine through 14 is really where the golf course starts to show its teeth.” Oh, and it was designed for push carts and caddies only.

The first group to play Pinehurst No. 10

The Sandmines’ name and logo is a nod to the history of the Sandhills, which were mined for sandy soil that was then shipped by railroad to building projects across the country. You may win a trivia question with that factoid. For now the course is only open for guests of the resort, similar to what the resort did when course No. 8 opened. The resort has larger plans to incorporate another 18-hole course, clubhouse and guest lodging at the Pinehurst Sandmines.
