Sips About to go Down

On Saturday, April 29, a new business will pop a cork at 108 N. Poplar St. Mary Schlaff, who runs the Village Wine Shop in Pinehurst alongside Kea Capel, is opening a sister store — the Village Wine Shop Aberdeen.
Formerly the home of a boutique, the shop now has a modern, moody vibe with dark paint, low light and velvet couches. In addition to being a local gathering place and a spot to share a glass or three, Mary would like to see it operate as an intimate venue.

“I think Aberdeen has a unique, new, fresh energy to it. Selfishly, I want a place where I can drink wine and walk home,” she laughs. “I think with the way the area is growing, Aberdeen is the next up-and-coming downtown.”
The shop will carry bottles from small, boutique producers you can’t find everywhere, as well as easy-drinking porch-pounders at a friendly price point.
“I have always loved wine’s ability to bring people together, across all ages and backgrounds,” she says. “I’ve also really grown to love and respect the process of wine and have become passionate about trying to share that with other people.”

- Hours will be 1-9 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 1-11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
