You may notice that the clump of dilapidation on Old U.S. 1, formerly home to Cornell’s Radio and TV, is being demolished. The building is perhaps better known for a sign that advertised it could “polish door locks” — often read as an advertisement for Polish door locks.
• Southern Pines spokesman Gerald Ostlund said the town fire marshal and building inspector determined the building was uninhabitable.
•Why haven’t they finished the job? For a reason too hilarious to be made up: there is a live power pole in the middle of the building. We’re not sure which came first, the building or the pole, but we’re considering it a historical example of the landlord special.
•You can expect to see the rest (minus the pole) torn down soon.
•We don’t know what will happen to the property now, but we do know it’s for sale.

#swaysix: At the risk of having our Southern cards revoked, we thought it was time to make a list of some of our favorite local biscuits. While you can find a biscuit at nearly any gas station (you do you) we wanted to make a list of some local finds you’ll want to try:
1. The Smoked Brisket and Sweet Potato Biscuit Sandwich @pinehurstbrewing
2. The Bologna, Egg and Cheese from Midway Grill
3. The Biscuit and Sausage Gravy from Sizzlin’ Steak or Eggs
4. The Urban Cowboy @eatatmasons
5. The Rise and Pine Sconewich @pinesconecafesp
6. The Chicken Biscuit @theslyfoxpub
Now duke it out in the comments on which is your fav ⬇️ or see the full list on our website

Now if you find a lost pet, you don’t have to wait for a vet to be open to scan it for a microchip. Thanks to realtor Joanne Crum and Rogue Active Duty Animal Rescue (RADAR), you’ll find three microchip scan stations in Moore County. The scan stations will be outdoors and available 24/7. In a way, they’re a bit like a self-checkout situation, except you’re scanning for info so you can contact the owners of lost dogs and cats ASAP. You can find the scan stations outside Moore Equine, Burney Hardware in Aberdeen and Carthage Farm Supply.

@odonnellspubsopines toasts to 25 years today 🍻. If the walls of this DTSP institution could talk, we’d need a drink — ok, probably three — to process it all. Start your tab this afternoon by partying like it’s 2000 with live music by @mckenziesmill + a pig roast with sides by @salty__boards.
Owner Pat O’Donnell has added a few upgrades to the building, which has been a Southern Pines Fire Station and a bar called Finch’s, but for the most part, the place hasn’t changed much in the past 25 years. Now it’s home to @sopirugby and the annual chili cook-off.
“It’s old school,” Pat says. “You come in and know everybody, that’s what I want.”

🥂Feeling bubbly? So are Alexis Hokenstrom and Chandler Fahn, who have created @cheekybubblesllc with a customized Piaggio Ape.
Driven by a desire to bring more joy and connection to people’s lives, the duo landed on the idea of a mobile bar during a regular brunch outing.
The mini truck can hold four full kegs and can set up at every kind of celebration, from bridal showers to weddings, birthdays and corporate events. They’re even serving a divorce party in the coming weeks 🎉 “Our motto is cheers to everything,” the two owners say.

In case you missed it: @monkeesofthepines Southern Pines location is moving down the street to 162 NW Broad Street, the former home of Mockingbird.
The move will take Monkee’s Southern Pines from 900 to 1,800 square feet, with a much more open floor plan.
Owner Veronica Loyd says it was tough to see Mockingbird leave broad but she is looking forward to redesigning the space.
She will be expanding her inventory on products Monkee’s is already known for, like denim, cocktail attire and shoes. The move won’t happen until this fall. Stay tuned.

Traveling south from Moore County you may pass The Marketplace at OTL (Off the Land) Farms, in the somewhat “no man’s land” between Aberdeen and Laurinburg. The store opened last August and is run by muscadine farmer Davon Goodwin with the help of his mother.
He stocks a variety of provisions from all over the state including eggs, cheese, pickles, veggies, sauces, meats and more. Plus ice cream and a muscadine slushy that is grape fun. See more in last night’s newsletter or on our website. 🍇
